Christmas 2003… A special night to remember!

Wednesday, 24th December 2003

“Glory to God in the heavenly heights; Peace to all men and women on earth who please Him”. These were the first words, which started the traditional Christmas sermon, which was performed by eight-year-old Joseph Cutajar.

Christmas eve, here in Ghajnsielem started with its traditional Santa’s visits. Afterwards in church there was the singing of Christmas carols, the boy’s Christmas sermon, which included a pageant, followed by the midnight mass.

Santa’s home visit was a huge success. Sixty gifts were to be deliver in the whole area of Ghajnsielem with Santa Clause’s ‘”voyage” starting at 5.30p.m. and finishing around 10.30pm… just in time for families to make to the midnight Christmas mass.

The mass started with the procession of baby Jesus accompanied by the popular hymn Adeste Fidelis, the singing of Christmas Carols followed by the sermon which included the Christmas pageant performed by a eight year old children who this summer have received their first Holy Communion. At midnight the traditional mass started with the participation of Lauretana Choir celebrated by Arch. Joseph Zerafa accompanied by Fr. Tarcisio Attard and Fr. Joe Cardona.

In several houses, cribs of baby Jesus were built. Some even made their crib open for the general public. The square was as usual decorated by the l-Ghaqda tal-Armar. The altar in church was given a new look. It was built and arranged by Rudolph Cauchi and Franco Ciangura together with the Ghaqda tal-Armar (see pictures below).
