The Holy Week
in Pictures
Like the rest of the
Catholic
world,
Ghajnsielem is celebrating the Holy week. The
Holy Week is the last week of
Lent, the week immediately preceding Easter Sunday. It is
observed by Christianity as a time to commemorate and enact
the suffering (Passion) and death of Jesus through various
observances and services of worship.
On Thursday,
Ghajnsielem commemorated Jesus's Last Supper with his
disciples and his agony in the garden of Gethsemane with the
celebration of the Eucharist at the Ghajnsielem parish Church.
Archpriest Can
Joseph Zerafa washed the
feet of twelve youths who represented the apostles. Those twelve also represent the neglected ones
- so
as to show how priesthood is at their service. After the
mass, hundreds of Gozitans kept tradition alive by
visiting the so called "seven churches".
On Good Friday,
better known in Maltese as 'Il-Gimgha il-Kbira', Ghajnsielem
commemorated the passion and death of Jesus Christ. A special
service consisting of the Word of God, the Adoration of the
Cross and Holy Communion was held at the Ghajnsielem Parish
church.
