Twinning committee Meeting

Thursday, 24th June 2004

The final preparations for next August's cultural exchange are well underway as the twinning committee held another meeting on Thursday evening. The hosting families preparations was again on top of the agenda although much of the problems have already been sorted out. Other topics on the agenda were the budget and the inauguration of the 'Piazza La Tolfa' square.

As many already know, a group of more then hundred residents from Tolfa are expected to be among us during the last week of August - the week dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto. This trip is part of the twinning agreement between the two villages. In fact last May, thirteen Ghajnsielem Primary school students were in Italy for a six-day cultural exchange visit.

The twinning committee also announced the official programme of activities which will be handed shortly to the hosting families. The group will arrive in Ghajnsielem on Monday 23rd August where the hosting families will be waiting for them at the Maria Lauratana Youth Centre (4.00pm). On Wednesday, Tolfa and Ghajnsielem will inaugurate the square and monument in Tal-Kaxxa area. The square will be known as Piazza La Tolfa. Members of the Banda Musicale G. Verdi (Tolfa) are also expected to take an active part during the feast celebrations.

The committee is formed by Francis Cauchi (Mayor), Natasha Cassar, Kevin Cauchi, Frank Tabone, Frank Debono, Daniel Said, Franco Ciangura, Rudolph Cauchi, Paul Stellini and Gino Cauchi. All those who are interested in helping the twinning committee  can contact the Local Council office on 21561515.
