Sculptor Exhibits in Milano
Sunday, 16th
May 2004
Between 3 - 7th May 2004, sculptor
Joe Xuereb has participated in a Malta Exhibiton in Milano,
Italy, together with Gozitan photographer Daniel Cilia and
painter Luciano Micallef. This exhibition "Un salto nelle
origini dell'Europa" - Malta incontra Milano, was held as part
of Malta's accession into the E.U. and served as a promotion
event to the Maltese Islands. It was held at the prestigious
14th century 'Palazzo Affari ai Giureconsulti' that lies in
front of Milan's famous Cathedral.
While Ghajnsielem sculptor Joe Xuereb exhibited 10 limestone
sculptures, Daniel Cilia showed his collection of superb
photographs depicting Malta's scenes, architecture, and the
local traditions while well known Luciano Micallef displayed a
collection of his paintings.
The vernissage was held on Monday 3rd May 2004 at 18.00 hours
where a press conference took place in the presence of the
participating artists and Malta's Ambassador to Italy H.E.
Melillo. The event started by an introduction of Mr Domenic
Micallef director of MTA Office in Milan, followed by
Ambassador Melillo and the three artists who spoke about the
philosophy of their art works. It is to be remarked that a
large audience made up of journalists and those involved in
trade and travel, attended this event.
Joe Xuereb considers his participation in the Milan exhibition
as very successful. He has been invited to transfer his
exhibits in another town in northern Italy while the Hon.
Consul of Malta in Milan Guido Valentini invited Xuereb to
hold a bigger exhibition in the near future. Among Xuereb's
guests who attended the official opening, there were Mr & Mrs.
Sergio Mariani who have now owned a residence place in our
village for many years. Other guests included those who
visited the sculptor's Gallery in Ghajnsielem over the past
years.
Mr Domenic Micallef , director of MTA Office in Milan was
behind the organisation of the exhibition which was also
sponsored by Air Malta, Malta Enterprise and Bank of Valletta.
