Day 1: Arrival of
the Tolfa Delegation
(Monday, 20th August 2007)
The week long
celebrations of the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto officially kicked off on Monday
when the
St. Joseph Band Club played a set of marches from Garden
Street to the Main Square. Shortly afterwards the
titular statue of Our Lady of Loreto was taken out of
its niche marking the first day of a whole week of
celebrations.
A strong delegation
of around 60 people from Tolfa joined us today for
the week-long feast celebrations. The group landed at
the Malta International Airport around 3.30pm and
arrived in Mgarr at 7.00pm.
Once in
Gozo, they met their hosting families over a serving of
refreshments. After a quick shower and dinner, many took
the opportunity to come and discover what Ghajnsielem
has to offer. Many were impressed with the quality of
the street decorations and the size of the magnificent
square and its imposing parish church. A small
delegation from Ireland (which is Twinned with Tolfa)
arrived late in the evening.
A close friendship already exists between the people of
Ghajnsielem and Tolfa and this trip will certainly renew
it.
