Local Council keeps
promise on road resurfacing
(Thursday,
9th August
2007)
Amongst
the major works performed by the Ghajnsielem Local
Council through the past years, road resurfacing was
always high on the agenda. And by resurfacing Wied
ir-Rajjes and Cordina street (last part leading to the
Cemetery), the Council kept its promise of resurfacing
all the roads that fall under its jurisdiction.
Rainwater culverts were constructed in Wied ir-Rghajjes
street in order to minimize the draining impact at the
Apparition Square. The drainage and water services have
also been upgraded while the pavements were replaced.
Thanks to these road works, the cemetery now started to
enjoy drainage and water services.
Works on part of Zewwieqa Street will start in the next
few days. Tenders were also submitted for the
resurfacing of Qighan street, Imrejzbiet street and
Merchant Street.
Ghajnsielem.com asked Mayor Franics Cauchi to give his
comments about the state of our roads: “The upgrading of
our road has always been priority for the Local Council.
Unfortunately this required a heavy investment and some
projects had to be shelved. But the results are finally
being reaped and the Council will now start focusing on
other exciting projects”
It is interesting to note that 95% of the roads in
Ghajnsielem are now tarmaced. This clearly shows the
commitment of the Local Council towards our locality.
