The first
day of activities of the 'Gimgha Ghajnsielem' was
dedicated to the sick and elderly. The mayor together
with the councillors and representatives of the St
Joseph Band Club and Ghajnsielem F.C. brought joy to
many elderly and sick people when they visited their
homes late this afternoon. The delegation was split into
3 groups and each group visited 10 different homes.
Many
wanted to offer refreshments as they narrated
interesting stories and recounted some of their life
experiences while bringing back memories of the old
times. The happiness that these visits brought to these
people was tangible.
The homes
visited were selected according solely on the basis of
requests made by the families concerned and were
primarily offered to the sick and the elderly confined
to their homes. The event was organized by the
Ghajnsielem Local Council.
Meanwhile
it was announced that the external activities of 9th
December will take place as originally planned. For the first time,
Ghajnsielem will be celebrating the Liturgical Feast of
Our Lady of Loreto in the form of a procession which
will start from Independence Square at 5.30pm. A bonfire
will than be started in the main square as the Ghajnselmizi
will gather around it singing joyful songs and marches
together with the St Joseph Band.
