An exhibition
showcasing the splendour of Gozo's traditional Sailing
Boats and which is
being organized by the
Imperial Gozo Yacht Club
was inaugurated
this afternoon by
Mayor Francis Cauchi. The exhibition features a unique
selection of small scale models of the lateen-rigged
Gozo cargo boats, known in Maltese as 'Dghajsa tal-pass'
or 'Dghajsa tal-latini'.
Most of these models where
built by men who actually worked on them. Range of
actual boats on show with the traditional rigging
including: the frejgatina, frejgatina bil-kurtuni,
kajjik, firilla and dghajsa tal-pass/latini. The
exhibition is being held at the Imperial Gozo Yacht
Club's new premises in 24, Manoel de Vilhena Str, Mgarr.
At the Fishermen’s mole,
next to the slipway in the Zewwieqa waterfront, one
could also admire a number of actual traditional sailing
crafts.
