Special services
are held at war memorials and churches in numerous
countries and in several villages in Malta and Gozo on the second Sunday of November, the
Sunday closest to November 11. But this year, the
ceremony was held exactly on the 11th hour of the
11th day of the 11th Month - the Day when this
event is
actually supposed to be celebrated. This marks the
signing of Armistice on November 11, 1918, that
signalled the end of World War I.
The War Monument, which is situated at Chambray
Street, was inaugurated in May 1995 in honour of the
Ghajnsilmizi who died during the two World Wars.
