During the two day stay in Gozo, the Malta shipping agent, Mr Ivan Mifsud managing Director of Malta Cruise Services, accompanied Mr. Dag H. Saevik (Senior Captain) and Mr. Renato W. Chizzola (General Manager) on a sightseeing visit to the island of Gozo. Among their itinerary on the island, they paid a visit to our village of Ghajnsielem where they visited the Sculpture Gallery of Joe Xuereb situated in Bahhara Street.

Considering that the luxury cruise liner ‘The World’ was making its maiden call to Gozo, Mr Mifsud the local shipping agent, presented one of Xuereb’s sculptures as a momento to the senior captain to be displayed on board ‘The World’ among its memorabilia. Something typical to our island’s rich prehistorical times was chosen as a gift which is among Xuereb best artistic oeuvre. During the official presentation, a photo ably shot by Gerhard Steffenhagen of the cruise liner berthed in the archipelago close to the Blue Lagoon in Comino, was also presented to the senior captain Mr Dag H. Saevik.

The top management of ‘The World’ were so much fascinated with Xuereb’s sculptural works, that they have proposed that during their next visit to Gozo in 2008, arrangements will be made to organise a sculpture exhibition on board the liner and recommend to their guests a visit to the Gallery considering it is such a short distance from Mgarr harbour.
