The St. Joseph Band
performed its annual Instrumental Concert, this year
commemorating the 80th anniversary. The event was held
under the distinguished patronage of H.E. Dr Edward
Fenech Adami, President of Malta.
The band was directed by Mro
Sunny Galea and assisted by Mro Frankie Debono and the
excellent performance included works by Antonon Dvorak
and Giuseppe Verdi. Other pieces included 'Nabucco',
'Don't Cry for Me Argentina', 'Candle in the Wind',
'Star Trek Movie Soundtrack' and 'I Will Follow Him'
from the popular Sister Act movie.
Other distinguished guests
included Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo and
Chris Said, Parliamentary Secretary.
After making a short speech
for the occasion, Band Club President Mr Gino Cauchi
presented commemorative gift to Mayor Francis Cauchi,
Mro Sunny Galea and Michael Ciangura, who formed part of
the first band in 1928.
Mr Ciangura who turned 90
last week was visibly moved when in the closing speech,
H.E. Dr Edward Fenech Adami congratulated him for the
fact that he was part of the first band. During his
speech, the President of Malta highlighted several
points from the history of the St Joseph Band.
Shortly after his speech,
the President of Malta unveiled an abstract painting of
Our Lady of Loreto, work of Vince Caruana. The painting
will be displayed in the refurbished commiteee room.
The President also had the
opportunity to visit the St Joseph Band Club premises
where he signed the visitors book. Later he was taken to
Mons G. Zerafa's house to see his newly exhibited church
model. H.E. Dr Edward Fenech Adami ended his visit in
Ghajnsielem at Radju Lauretana's studios.
