St Anthony's feast preparations well underway
(Thursday, 8th May
2008)

Preparations are well underway for the feast of St Anthony in Ghajnsielem which this year takes place on the 1st of June. Traditionally, the feast of St Anthony opens the season of the summer feasts.

The official activities start on Friday, 23rd May but the highlight of the 9-day long activities will take place Saturday and Sunday of the following week when the St Joseph Band Club will accompany the statue of St Anthony around the main street of Ghajnsielem in the area known as 'Tal-Gudja'. You can download the full program of activities from the link below.

Meanwhile, the Franciscan community announced the publication of the third and last volume entitled "Fonti ghall-Hajja ta' San Frangisk t'Assisi" (Sources for the Life of Saint Francis of Assisi). This volume contains 555 pages and all the three volumes together contain a total of 1412 pages. These are the result of more than twenty years of painstaking work by a group of Franciscan friars from Malta, who translated the critical Latin editions of these Sources into Maltese. The Sources for the Life of Saint Francis are documents of great historical value, which regard the life of Saint Francis and the beginnings of the Order of Friars Minor. They were written between 1226 and the end of the 14th century. These Sources (in Latin "Fontes") are authentic witnesses of the history of the Church and medieval Europe, which was the social and cultural context in which the great Franciscan family came to light.
