During a press conference
held at Castille, Hon. Chris Said, Parliamentary
Secretary for Public Dialogue and Information together
with Ghajnsielem Mayor Francis Cauchi and project
manager Franco Ciangura explained the details of the
nativity village to the present media.
The journalists were also
shown a short promotional video which was later
broadcasted on all major TV station. The official
poster, website and the nativity village map were also
unveiled.
Mayor Francis Cauchi said that the village is being
built on a land stretching 20,000sqm in the area known
as ‘Ta Passi’ fields, situated between Ghajnsielem’s
main square and Mgarr Road. Although ‘Ta Passi’ has been
abandoned for several years, the area has now been
cleaned and over 400 meters of rubble walls which
collapsed over the years were rebuilt. Parliamentary
Secretary Chris Said said that project offers a boost
for internal tourism and promises to be a major
attraction in Gozo where families can relax and enjoy
Christmas in a unique way.
Project manager Mr Franco Ciangura said that ‘Bethlehem
f’ Ghajnsielem’ will include several attractions
including the a carpenter workshop, a blacksmith, a
bakery, a market selling fruits and vegetables, a
tavern, a crafts center and a horse stable. The main
attraction will obviously be the grotto with Mary,
Joseph, & baby Jesus. Maps will be given to all visitors
and ‘Bethlehem by night’ will offer visitors another
unique experience in terms of ambience and atmosphere
“Bethlehem f’ Ghajnsielem”
will be officially inaugurated on Saturday, 6th December
by the Hon. Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and blessed by
Gozo Bishop Mgr. Mario Grech. It will remain open until
Sunday 4th of January.
