The catholic church is today celebrating Palm Sunday.
This day observes the
triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, that was marked by
the crowds who were in Jerusalem for Passover waving palm
branches and proclaiming him as the messianic king. All the
parishes of Malta and Gozo on Palm Sunday (in Maltese
Ħadd il-Palm) bless the palm leaves and the olive leaves
Ghajnsielem commemorated this event with the re-enactment of
Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. The re-enactment started at
9.45am from the Old Parish Church and ended in the main
square. The 10.15am Mass was dedicated to the children
who will be receiving their First Holy Communion and the
Sacrament of Confirmation later this year. Meanwhile late in the afternoon, another re-enactment was
organized, this time depicting all the stages that
Christ passed during his passion and death (Via Sagra).
