Holy Week 2009
Analysis and Reflections
Ghajnsielem managed to offer and attract a unique
experience during the Holy Week as all the village
organizations worked together to create an exhaustive
calendar of activities and attractions. The
Ghajnsielem Parish Church and St Anthony's
Church were
both tastefully decorated
for the occasion
and their
liturgical celebrations can be simply described as "sublime".
The Ghaqda
Drammatika Ghajnsielem managed to re-create a unique
experience of the passion of Jesus Christ thanks to the
'Via Sagra'
re-enactment around the main streets of Ghajnsielem.
During the 'Musica
Sagra' concert, the St Joseph Band played several
pieces of funeral marches at an astonishing level of
virtuosity which rightly brought those present to their
feet to acknowledge with applause. The main square
was also decorated with several Holy Crosses and Palms
to give a unique ambience to the visitors during the
‘seven visits’ on Maundy Thursday.
Other interesting attractions included the 'Holy Week
Exhibition' at St Joseph Band Club which was sponsored
by the Ghajnsielem Local Council, the Golgota
model made by the Altar Boys, and the Last Supper
Table at the Franciscan Youths Center. And for
the benefit of our beloved emigrants, Ghajnsielem.com
and Radju Lauretana again offered superb coverage
for all activities related with the Holy Week. Our
village is fast developing a cultural dimension based on
three pillars: Christmas, the Holy Week and the titular
Feast. Hopefully the last few months were just a hint of
bright things to come...
