It
was a special day for Samuel Grech who together with
four other seminarians
received the ministry of Lectorate at a special
concelebrating presided by H.L. Mgr Mario Grech.
The ceremony took place at the collegiate
parish church of Nadur. The other seminarians included
Krystof Buttiġieġ from Qala, John Majlak from the Gozo
Cathedral, Trevor Sultana and Franklin Vella, both of
which hail from Xewkija.
They are now in their fifth year of formation at the
Gozo diocesan seminary. The ministry of Lectorate
contains the formal mandate of the Church to those it
enables to proclaim the Word of God at its liturgy.
Although many nowadays do the readings at mass, the
Church still encourages that lectors be so by mandate,
given to them through a ministry they receive from the
Church, accompanied by regular formation.
With this new ministry, therefore the five seminarians
will be officially given this ministry: to be lectors,
but, first and foremost, proclaimers of God’s Word
through their own life. It is a call we are all summoned
to follow as Christians.
