The
Saliba family of Ghajnsielem was awarded the Familja
Qalb tad-Deheb, sponsored by the Gozo Cana Movement for
the past 38 years.
The award was presented by President Eddie Fenech Adami
during an evening held at Hotel Ta' Ċenċ. Paul Pisani,
chairman of the adjudicating board, said the Saliba
family had passed through difficult times. Yet, despite
these problems, they showed courage and continued to
look after the family and remained united, thus
deserving the coveted award.
The
award is given by the nation-wide charity for the family
known as Il-Moviment ta’ Kana. In Gozo this movement is
very active through its Gozo section. Being a diocesan
movement, the ethos of Il-Moviment ta’ Kana is Catholic
and its director is a member of the Gozo clergy.
The evening included musical interludes by the Chorus
Urbanus. Present were Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, Gozo
Minister Giovanna Debono, Parliamentary Secretary Chris
Said and MPs Frederick Azzopardi, Anton Refalo and
Justyn Caruana.
Ghajnsielem Mayor Francis Cauchi also presented a
commemorative gift to the Saliba family on behalf of the
Ghajnsielem community.
