Cardinal Agnelo Gerardo Majella,
Primate of Brazil who presided over the festivities marking
the feast of St Paul in Munxar last week, visited
Ghajnsielem where he was welcomed by Archpriest Frankie
Bajada.
In a short but very symbolic ceremony, he inaugurated a
course of catechises on the Beatitudes. Cardinal Majella was
presented with a painting of St Paul by Paul Stellini of
Ghajnsielem.
Geraldo Majella Agnelo was born
in Juiz de Fora, Brazil on October 19, 1933 He is a;sp
Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia. In May 1999 he was
nominated Vice President of CELAM. Elected president of the
National Conference of Brazilian Bishops in May 2003.He was
made Cardinal-Priest of San Gregorio Magno alla Magliana
Nuova (St. Gregory the Great at Magliana Nuova) by John Paul
II in the consistory of February 21, 2001. He was one of the
cardinal electors who participated in the 2005 papal
conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI and was considered
papabile himself.
