The external activities on
Saturday evening started at
9.00pm when Victoria's La
Stella Band played a marches
from Garden Street and
ending in the Main Square
where they performed a
musical programme. At the
same time, hundreds of
enthusiastic youngsters with
flags and 'Viva x-Xemx'
tshirts started to assemble
in Hamri Street to accompany
the St Joseph Band and
Xaghra's Victory Band for
the traditional ''Marc ta'
lejlet il-festa".
The
rain of confetti and papers
thrown from private roofs in
Hamri Street
once again created a unique
atmosphere which was only
passed
the chanting of the present
crowd as the St. Joseph Band
played the 'Viva x-Xemx'.
Celebrations continued
in the main square where the
young revellers danced and
chanted together as several
fire-planes simultaneously
crossed the main square from
three different locations. A
'helicopter' then crossed
the main square with a
banner showing the words 'Protettrici
ta' l-Avjazzjoni'
The evening ended with a
spectacular pyrotechnic
ground-firework display
accompanied by relaxing
music. Despite new fireworks
regulations, several
enthusiasts were impressed
with the level of
organization as the 'cigifogu'
was being lit off thus
closing the evening on a
very positive note.
