Mayor Francis Cauchi recently accompanied Parliamentary
Secretary for Public Consultation Chris Said to view the new
civic centre being built in Għajnsielem.
The building in J.G. De Chambrai Street will incorporate a
police station and a health centre. Dr Said praised
Għajnsielem council's decision to build its centre close to
existing facilities such as the primary school and the
public library. The new civic centre will have photovoltaic
panels on its roof to make use of cleaner energy.
Dr Said said 44 towns and villages benefited from special
funds allocated to introduce energy efficient measures last
year. The scheme, which will be reintroduced this year,
encourages local councils to use alternative energy through
the installation of solar and photovoltaic panels, as well
as energy saving lights in streets and public places.
Meanwhile the Ghajnsielem Local
Council is currently undergoing several other initiatives
including the embellishment of the road around the main
square and Independence Square plus the resurfacing of
Fawwara Street and part of Hamri Street. Several other
exciting projects are also in the pipeline.
