Seminarian Samuel Grech ordained deacon
(Sunday, 20th June
2010)
 

After a long wait of 45 years, a young man from Ghajnsielem, Seminarian Samuel Grech was conferred as deacon of the Roman Catholic Church by Gozo Bishop Mgr Mario Grech  during solemn Mass on Sunday afternoon at the Gozo Cathedral. Samuel was joined by five other Gozitan seminarians. The event was broadcasted live on Radju Lauretana (listen to podcast)

Samuel was born on the 3rd October 1985. He was baptized in Ghajnsielem Parish Church on the 10th November 1985. He attended Ghajnsielem primary School from 1991 to 1996. Afterwards, he proceeded to the Ninu Cremona Boys Junior Lyceum where he spent 5 years, from 1996 up to 2001. By the age of twelve, he had already experienced the death of both his parents. His aunt became his foster carer. He attended post secondary school from 2001 to 2003.

Samuel always wished to become a priest. While at 6th Form, he started attending the Pre-Seminary. He was a very active member of the Society of Christian Doctrine, Museum. In September 2004 he entered the Major Seminary to prepare himself for priesthood. During the years 2007 – 2008, he worked in St Stanislaw Kostka Parish in Bay City Michigan USA. Back in Malta, he proceeded with his studies.
