On Sunday afternoon, the Ghajnsielem parish celebrated the
feast of St. Joseph the Worker, better known in Maltese as
'San Guzepp Haddiem'.
A mass
led by the St Joseph Band spiritual director Fr. Joe Cardona
started at 5.00pm and several bandsmen and committee members
took an active part in this celebration. Afterwards, the
band accompanied its patron St Joseph with a procession
around the main streets of Ghajnsielem. This year, three new
members joined the band and played for the first time.
The
feast of St. Joseph the Worker was established by Pope Pius
XII in 1955 in order to Christianize the concept of labour
and give to all workmen a model and a protector. By the
daily labour in his shop, offered to God with patience and
joy, St. Joseph provided for the necessities of his holy
spouse and of the Incarnate Son of God, and thus became an
example to all labourers.
