Amongst the major works performed by
the Ghajnsielem Local Council
through the past years, road
resurfacing was always high on the
agenda. Recently three streets were
resurfaced with hot asphalt
including part of Our Lady of Loreto
Square (the part leading to
Ghajnsielem Street) and part of
Garden Street. All water services
were changed and works were carried
out with the collaboration of the
Parliamentary Secretary for Local
Councils Dr Chris Said.
Another
road which is also in the final
phase of completion is Lourdes
Street which connects Mgarr Road to
Lourdes chapel. This busy street was
in dire need of repair leading to
the Local Council to write to the
Ministry for Gozo in order to built
part of the road which was
collapsing and resurface with hot
asphalt. The Minister accepted the
council’s request and works have
started a few weeks ago. Over 75% of
this street is already resurfaced.
The
Council also invested heavily in
traffic-signs maintenance, road
markings and street lighting in good
condition in order to enhance road
safety.
Mayor
Franics Cauchi told ghajnsielem.com
that “The upgrading of our road has
always been priority for the Local
Council. Unfortunately this required
a heavy investment and some projects
had to be shelved. But the results
are finally being reaped with over
95% of the roads in Ghajnsielem now
tarmaced. This clearly shows the
commitment of the Local Council
towards our locality.”
