Ghajnsielem has been waiting for this day for almost 46 years. This evening, one of its children has been ordained priest by Bishop Mario Grech at the Gozo Cathedral. Fr Samuel Grech is the first priest from our parish in 46 years, the last being Archpriest Mons G. Zerafa who was ordained priest in 1965.

Joining Fr Samuel in his ordination were six other deacons including Fra Stephen Magro ofm who is currently residing at the Franciscan Convent in Għajnsielem making the Presbiteral Ordination a motive of great joy for all the Ghajnselmizi. The  other deacons were Krystof Buttigieg from Qala, Simon Mario Cachia from St George Parish, John Meilak  from the Cathedral, Trevor Sultana and Franklin Vella from Xewkija.

Samuel was born on the 3rd October 1985. He was baptized in Ghajnsielem Parish Church on the 10th November 1985. He attended Ghajnsielem primary School from 1991 to 1996. Afterwards, he proceeded to the Ninu Cremona Boys Junior Lyceum where he spent 5 years, from 1996 up to 2001. By the age of twelve, he had already experienced the death of both his parents. His aunt became his foster carer. He attended post secondary school from 2001 to 2003.

Samuel always wished to become a priest. While at 6th Form, he started attending the Pre-Seminary. He was a very active member of the Society of Christian Doctrine, Museum. In September 2004 he entered the Major Seminary to prepare himself for priesthood. During the years 2007 – 2008, he worked in St Stanislaw Kostka Parish in Bay City Michigan USA.
