As the world
is celebrating the Epiphany, the 4th edition
of 'Bethlehem f' Ghajnsielem' once
again came to an
end with the triumphal entrance of the
'Three Kings' in the nativity
village.
The Magi, bearing gifts of gold,
frankincense and myrrh, travelled all
the way from Mellieha
to the nativity village in
Ghajnsielem. This year the Three
Kings started their journey from
Valletta on Saturday and continued
on Saturday starting from Selmun
Palace at 9.30am. AT 10.30am they
arrived in Mellieha Square, where
they met 'King Herod' before slowly
leaving to Cirkewwa on horseback.
They crossed to Gozo with the 3.00pm
ferry as the passengers looked
incredulously at the three wise men
on board the ship. The three kings
were than greeted by a huge crowd in
Mgarr Terminal. On their
arrival at Betlehem in Ghajnsielem,
the kings were welcomed by hundreds
of people, some of whom followed
their two-day re-enactment of the
biblical trip. There, they
handed over their gifts of gold,
frankincense and myrrh.
It was a truly unique
atmosphere that brought tears to
many Ghajnselmizi knowing that it
was the last day of animation. Indeed,
the visit of the three wise men at
the grotto to present gifts to baby
Jesus marked the end of four
weekends of animation and months of
hard work.
Once again, the
thousands of visitors including
hundreds of tourists and several
dignitaries were enough to bring a
deep feeling of satisfaction and
pride among the organizers.
