Blacks held by Tigers
(Sunday, 31st December
2006)

Ghajnsielem missed a great opportunity to close in on the leaders when they drew against Xewkija Tigers. The Blacks came close on several occasions to take the lead in the second half. They also ran the risk of losing the match but the Mercieca and Agius were not about to allow that and the match ended 1-1.  more

 

2006 ends in style for main Organizations

Over 200 people crowded the main hall of the Grand Hotel for a Gala Dinner Dance and 80's Night organized by the St Joseph Band Club. The committee decided to change the format of the traditional annual dinner for the bandsman and invite all the Ghajnsilmizi and turn this event into a fund-raising activity.  more

 

It's Christmas Time!

As usual, on Christmas Eve, Santa Clause was very busy with his annual home visits where he delivered gifts throughout the whole area of Ghajnsielem. Santa finished just in time for the families to make it to the traditional Christmas Procession (from Chambray Street to the main square) and the Midnight Mass.  more

 

Ghajnsielem Alive... On The Sunday Times!

The Sunday Times of the 17th of December dedicated 3 full pages to the 'Ghajnsielem Week' where the installation of Can. Frankie Bajada as the new Archpriest of Ghajnsielem culminated a whole week of activates. Ghajnsielem.com is giving the the opportunity to all those who missed the article to read it again.  more

 

GHAJNSIELEM WEEK
One to Remember


Ghajnsielem successfully revived an old tradition by dedicating 7 days of celebrations to our village. The activities involved all the main organizations and reached the climax on Sunday 10th December, the liturgical Feast of Our Lady of Loreto. On this day, Can. Frankie Bajada was also formally installed as the third Archpriest of the Ghajnsielem. Click below for more details about the whole week of activities.

Lackluster Blacks Held to a Draw
(Sunday, 3rd December
2006)

Ghajnsielem closed the first round of league play with a 1-1 draw against Qala S.J. Anthony Buttigieg put the Blacks ahead, with his first senior goal, early in the second half. Joseph Xerri brought Qala level later on. Franklee Galea nearly won it for the Blacks when he smashed a long range effort against the post.  more

 

Ghajnsielem Week: 7 Days of Celebrations!

The Cultural Committee has finalized the programme of activities for the 'Ghajnsielem Week' and thus reviving an old tradition of dedicating 7days of celebrations for our village. The activities start on the 2nd of December and will involve all the main organizations in Ghajnsielem.  more

 

Ghajnsielem F.C. in GFA Cup Final

The Blacks obtained a decisive 3-0 victory  against S.K. Victoria W. and qualified to the final of the 34th edition of the GFA cup. Ghajnsielem F.C. confirmed the good moment of the season. They produced an effective defensive department and dangerous in attack which confirmed their good form of the season. more

 

Tribute to fallen war Heroes

2006)

This morning, Ghajnsielem joined the rest of the Commonwealth to mark Remembrance Day to honour the victims of the two world wars. Several people gathered to pay tribute to the victims of the two World Wars at the War Memorial.
The ceremony was organized by the Ghajnsielem Local Council.  more

 

Put your hands up for the Blacks!

Ghajnsielem won a 7-goal thriller at the Sannat Ground in the quarter-final stage of the GFA. Cup. They beat their highly-rated rivals, Nadur 4-3, thanks to a Jeremy Camilleri strike in the 2nd period of extra time. The Blacks led at 1-0, then bled 3 goals and looked on their way to the long-awaited thumping.  more

 

First meeting of the Vocational Group

The 1st meeting of the Vocational Group, for this academic year, was held this month. The aim of this group is to help students find out what is the mission that God has entrusted to them. The Vocational Group offers a helping hand for students who have the feeling that God might be calling them for Priesthood.  more

Ghajnsielem covered with a blanket of fog

2006)

During the last few days, the weather was very untypical Maltese, with a blanket of fog literally covering the island. Although most of it had cleared by noon, the fog is still blanketing some parts of the island. The fog formed during the night due to a high level of humidity in the atmosphere, which met a cold spell.  more

 

Ghajnsielem.com relaunches History section

After an intensive research, Ghajnsielem.com has revamped the History section. It will now offer a detailed analysis from a historical perspective starting from the pre-historic times and continues on how Ghajnsielem has developed over the centuries. This is a very interesting feature for the students and all those that want to learn more about this beautiful village.  more

 

Diploma Award for local Interior Designer

Young Ghajnsielem designer Sandro Vella has been awarded the Diploma in Interior Design from the Institute of Interior Design of Wedmore, England. For the past three years, Sandro has been professionally trained in several areas and now he has recently opened up his own business, Velsano Design Housemore

 

Kercem Ajax equalize result in dying moments

2006)

Kercem Ajax and Ghajnsielem obtained a point each in an entertaining match that left the final result uncertain until the final whistle. The Blacks took the lead on the 88th minute but on the 2nd minute of extra time, Kercem scored the equaliser. The final result was 2-2.  This result favours leaders Sannat Lions.

New Ghajnsielem Archpriest announced

Gozo Bishop Mario Grech appointed Xaghra born Can. Frankie Bajada as the new pastor of the Ghajnsielem Parish and successor to Can Joseph Zerafa. The Bishop unexpectedly announced the news of the appointment to the faithful congregated after Monday’s 6.30pm mass.  more

 

Ghajnsielem Week programme finalized

The Cultural Committee met for the second time this evening in order to finalize the activities for the Ghajnsielem week. The whole week of activities will practically involve all the main organizations in Ghajnsielem and will include day trips, get-together events, gala dinner, festivals, competitions and even a youth night.

Ghajnsielem mourns Francis Buttigieg

Ghajnsielem mourns the passing of ex-Blacks player, Francis Buttigieg, who succumbed to a serious illness. Francis, who was five days short of his 55th birthday, is survived by his wife, Veronica, sons Joseph (Ghajnsielem midfielder--right), Larry (local councilor and ex-player) and daughter Angie.  more

 

Cultural Committee meets for the 1st time

The Cultural Committee met for the first time this evening in order to discuss the initial activities and ideas which in the future will form part of the so called 'Ghajnsielem Cultural Calendar'. High on the agenda were the activities for the 'Jum Ghajnsielem' (10th December) and the upcoming festive season.  more

 

Promising Local Artist wins foreign Award

The young artist Vince Caruana has just returned to Ghajnsielem with an M.A. in Visual Arts from the Libera Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, one of the most distinguished art institutions in Europe. He was classically trained in painting, sculpture and photography. Being a dedicated and a continuously striving student, he was also awarded ''Il Migliore Allievo dell’Anno''.  more

 

Festa 2006: The Highlights

For another year Ghajnsielem celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto in style. It was flawless from an organizational point of view while the richness and creativity of street decorations impressed everyone. One must also not forget the multitude of crowds that swarmed the whole square enjoying and watching the local youths celebrating in style.  more

 

Traditional 'Ikla ta' Wara l-Festa'

It was a three-hour recreational activity for over 150 persons who accepted the invitation of the St Joseph Band Club for a traditional Ikla ta' Wara l-Festa. Many of those who attended were still feeling nostalgic and a little sad when remembering that the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto came to an end.  more

 

Sunday: Viva l-Madonna ta' Loreto
(Sunday, 27th August 2006)

Ghajnsielem is today celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto. This morning Bishop Mario Grech led a pontifical concelebrated Mass. The procession with the statue of Our Lady of Loreto started at 7.30 and went around the main streets of Ghajnsielem. The feast ended with the traditional 'Marc tal-Hdax'.  more

 

Saturday: Feast gets into full swing
(Saturday, 26th August 2006)

Thousands of people from all over Malta and Gozo intermingled with the Ghajnsilmizi on Saturday evening to enjoy the feast of Our Lady of Loreto. Hundreds of enthusiastic youngsters gathered in Hamri Street as St Joseph Band and Victoria's 'Banda La Stella' played marched to the main square. The evening ended with a huge firework display.  more

 

Friday: Weekend starts with a big surprise

Thousands of Ghajnsilmizi were in for a surprise as l-Ghaqda ta' l-Armar unexpectedly presented the new statue of Our Lady of Home just a few minutes before the famous "March tal-Balzunetta". The St Joseph Band and Xewkija's 'Prekursur' Band played marches in Mgarr Road while accompanying the new statue to the main square.  more

 

Thursday: Band March in Simirat Street
(Thursday, 22nd August 2006)

The St Joseph Band together with Qala's 'Ite ad Joseph' band  yesterday played marches in Borg Gharib and Simirat street. The march which started at 21.00CET ended in front of the band club premises. The Executive Committee also launched the 2006 Annual Feast Magazine.  more

 

Tuesday: Annual Instrumental Concert

The St. Joseph Band, directed by Mro Sunny Galea and assisted by Mro Frankie Debono performed its annual Instrumental Concert in the main square. Shortly afterwards the executive proudly committee inaugurated a new flag  which will compliment the new decorations of the Club's premises.  more

 

Monday: Band March in Garden Street

The external feast celebrations officially kicked off on Monday where the St. Joseph Band Club played a set of marches from Garden Street to the Main Square.  Shortly afterwards the titular statue of Our Lady of Loreto was taken out of its niche marking the first day of a whole week of celebrations.  more

 

Special Mass for our Emigrants

Fr Emanuel Magro concelebrated a special Mass for emigrants currently holidaying in Gozo. This was followed by a reception at the parish centre. Many emigrants, some of whom left their homeland many years ago, are currently living in Europe, the Americas and Australia.  more

 

Ghajnsielem Fest 2006

Celebrations for the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto started today with the Ghajnsielem Fest Music festival. Many local talents took part in this event which was presented by Lelio Spiteri and Lorietta Buttigieg. The main attraction of the night was Fabrizio Faniello with his famous hit 'I Do'. more

With only a few days to go, l-Ghaqda ta' l-Armar are working at odd hours (sometimes under the scorching sun) in order to settle everything in time! Meanwhile, Ghajnsielem.com in collaboration with Eagle Security will be streaming the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto live on the internet. A daily photo update will also be available in the Ghajnsielem.com Feast section.  more

 

St Joseph Band's '06 Annual Magazine

During the next few weeks, the St Joseph Band Club will be freely distributing the 2006 Annual Feast Magazine to all the Ghajnsielem residents. The magazine which includes over 70 articles offers an insight and several interesting features about the village of Ghajnsielem.  more

 

2006 Feast t-shirt design presented

As part of the preparations for this year's titular feast, l-Ghaqda ta' l-Armar recently presented the new t-shirt design. These t-shirts are available in all sizes and are only sold on a pre-order basis. Those who are interested, should place their order either at the St Joseph Band Club bar or at the Parish Centre.

St Joseph Band Club launches new CD

The executive committee decided to name this CD 'Euphoria' (meaning a state of high spirit) to reflect the enthusiasm that the Ghajnsilmizi have for the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto.  The CD contains a good mix of traditional and new marches back up by the Lauratana Choir.

Mayor Alessandro Battilocchio Re-Elected

Alessandro Battilocchio has been re-elected as Mayor during the local elections which were recently held in Tolfa. The young 'Sindku' who is well known in Ghajnsielem for the twinning activities won by a very wide margin of votes and will be on task for the next five years.

Special Day for 36 children
(4th June 2006)

It was a special day for 17 girls and 19 boys as they received their First Holy Communion. A mass was concelebrated in the afternoon by Archpriest Zerafa. The children participated and sang all the hymns leading to the most special moment as each child received the Holy Communion for the first time.  more

 

Salvation Day - Joe Attard saves the Blacks

Ex-champions and finalists of this year’s GFA cup Ghajnsielem, defended their first division status with a victory if 2-0 over the division II runners-up Victoria Hotspurs in the play-off against relegation. It was a deserved victory for the blacks as they produced more play than their opponents.  more

 

1-Day trip to Sicily a Success

The one-day trip to Sicily organized by the St Joseph Band club committee was hailed as success by all those who took the opportunity to make some bargain shopping. The day started on a good note as the group was informed that Virtu Ferries will be utilizing the new luxury jumbo Catamaran – M/V Maria Dolores for the first time. more

 

New Warehouse for l-Ghaqda ta' l-Armar

The need for a new and larger warehouse to replace the current one has long been felt. It was a rather a difficult task to choose a place which is large enough to store the feast decorations while obtain it at a reasonable budget. But after long discussion with the Archpriest Can. Fr. Joseph Zerafa he kindly offered a plot of land between near the Parish Centre.  more

 

Blacks Discover Scoring Touch

After three successive losses against the top teams in the first division, Ghajnsielem finally ran into a team in some distress, Xaghra United. Ghajnsielem beat Xaghra U. 5-1 to climb within four points of the same team. Errol Grima, Joseph Buttigieg (2), Larry Buttigieg and Frank Buttigieg scored for the Blacks.  more

 

Deserved Victory for Sannat, 2-1
(16th April 2006)

Sannat Lions obtained a deserved victory over Ghajnsielem and they are now only two points from making sure of the third spot on the table. The three goals of the match were scored during the first half, but the Blacks never managed to produce a reaction after the break.  more

 

Hundreds Enjoy "Is-Salib tal-Fidwa"

Hundreds of Ghajnsilmizi packed the Ghajnsielem Parish Church to enjoy the spectacular performance put on by 'L-Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem' during the 19th edition of the Easter Pageant. "Is-Salib tal-Fidwa" was written and directed by JoAnne Debrincat.  more

 

A Day of Devotion: Our Lady of Sorrow

Hundreds of Ghajnsilmizi followed the solemn procession of Our Lady of Sorrow which went round the main streets. The procession took the form of a pageant with various participants dressed up in period costumes to represent Biblical personalities. The feast which takes place before Palm Sunday is considered as one of the most revered in the Maltese islands  more

Ghajnsielem mourns Frank Xuereb

Ghajnsielem was stunned with the sad news that one of its favourite sons, Frank Xuereb, has passed away. He was just 49 years old. Frank Xuereb
was an inspiring figure. He approached whatever responsibility he took on with great passion and commitment. His inspiration is ensconced in the hearts of all those he touched.  more

 

Easter Pageant 2006: 'Is-Salib tal-Fidwa'

Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem will be staging the passion play "Is-Salib tal-Fidwa" on 10th and 11th April 2006 at Ghajnsielem Parish church at  8.00pm. "Is-Salib tal-Fidwa", written by JoAnne Debrincat is the 19th production of the Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem since its formation in 1987.  more

 

Local model on Reality Show

Ghajnsielem's eighteen-year-old model Jennifer Buttigieg will be amongst the thirty finalists who will be taking part in the reality TV show, GateWay to Miss World, which is being aired on Net TV. She was chosen amongst hundreds of applicants and will be now competing to represent Malta in the Miss World finals.  more

 

Blacks struggling against relegation

Kercem recovered from the upset to Nadur in their previous outing with a close 1-0 victory over Ghajnsielem. The Blacks' best opportunity saw Frank Buttigieg hitting badly from an ideal position. Ghajnsielem, who are still struggling against relegation, were without Ricardo Conceicao due to suspension.  more

 

St Joseph Band's CD Recordings streamed online

The new committee has decided to put all the CDs released by St Joseph Band online. The visitors can listen to these recordings by visiting the 'CDs and Cassettes' section and click on the desired album. The aim behind this decision is to promote these marches outside Malta and enhance the website. more

 

Cultural Committee to be formed soon

After a fruitful meeting between the Local Council and the St Joseph Band Club Committee, both parties decided to form a 'Cultural Committee'. The main aim behind this committee will be that of improving the quality of life through the organization of cultural activities and exhibitions throughout the year while making use of hidden talent that our village offers.  more

 

New Band Committee aims High

The newly elected committee which is led by Gino Cauchi (President), Kevin Cauchi (Secretary) and Elvin Tabone (Treasurer) held its first executive meeting on Monday. It was decided that one of the main priorities of this committee is to change the negative mentality which many have towards the Club while asking them for their support and contribution.  more

 

Ghajnsielem hosts Tolfa mayor and choir

The weekend of February 24-27 was characterised by rain, cold and wind. Yet despite the inclement weather, the festivities prepared by the Ghajnsielem Council in honour of a visiting delegation from Tolfa went ahead. The delegation represented the Choir of Tolfa, 'Corale di Tolfa', which is well known in the Lazio region for its performances.  more

 

Another scoreless draw against Wanderers
(25th February 2006)

Ghajnsielem and S.K. Victoria Wanderers played to their second goalless draw of the season. This encounter, however, bore no relation to the arid scoreless match played earlier in the season at the Sannat Ground. The slightly soggy turf of the Gozo Stadium was certainly more conducive to flowing football then that last outpost of the sandy, rutted ground at Sannat.  more

 

Mgr Grech's Ends his Pastoral Visit

Bishop Mgr Grech brought joy to many people especially to the children during his visit at the Ghajnsielem Primary School. This was the last day of his pastoral visit. His program ended with a concelebrated mass in the presence of hundreds of Ghajnsilmizi who thanked him for his visit and wished him best of luck for his new mission.  more

 

Second Day of Bishop Mgr Grech's Visit

Following a full day of back-to-back activities yesterday, Mgr Mario Grech continued his pastoral visit by meeting several organizations. The Bishop was embraced, kissed, hugged by many members of these organizations while others even took this opportunity to have a photo with him. Mgr Grech shook hands and conversed with them even with limited time available.  more

Newly appointed Gozo Bishop Mario Grech yesterday started an official 3-day pastoral visit. The visit is of a pastoral, liturgical, cultural and social nature which will take place in the church, the Parish Centre, the homes, the organizations and the streets of Ghajnsielem. Mgr Grech was greeted by hundreds of people who gathered in the main square awaiting for his arrival.   more

 

Tolfa delegation to visit Ghajnsielem

A delegation form Tolfa will come to Ghajnsielem from 24th to 27th of February. The delegation represents the Choir of Tolfa which is well known in the Lazio Region for its performances. The group will be involved in several cultural activities organized by the Comune di Tolfa in collaboration with the Ghajnsielem Local Council and the Lauretana Choir.  more

 

Blacks bounce back against Xewkija
(12th February 2006)

Ghajnsielem recovered from last week's setback with a spirited performance and a 2-0 victory over Xewkija T. Renato Conceicao opened the score from a penalty while Stefan Azzopardi scored the second. The Blacks survived Xewkija's pressure, including a penalty (missed by Tchawou) to grab all points and re-launch their pursuit of a more respectable position in the league table.  more

 

Crafts Incubation Centre in Ghajnsielem
(10th February 2006)

he Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) has authorised the construction of the first Crafts Incubation Centre in Gozo, which includes an extension to the present Wistin Camilleri Gozo Centre for Arts and Crafts in Ghajnsielem. The project is being financed under the Structural Programme for Malta 2004-2006, involving the investment of approx €800,000.  more

 

Xaghra United beat Ghajnsielem 5-0
(5th February 2006)

Xaghra United obtained the double over Ghajnsielem
and now join Xewkija Tigers at the 3rd spot on the table. Thier victory practically matured with an excellent performance by strikers Kalenga Ndayi and Silvan Galea. The Blacks were denied from scoring on several occasions following consecutive efforts by Larry Buttigieg and Anthony Buttigieg.   more

 

First win of the season
(22nd January 2006)

It finally happened. The three points gained left the team rooted down in 6th place, with a 7 point chasm separating the Blacks from fourth and fifth place. Renato Conceicao led an all-round performance against Sannat Lions by scoring a goal in each half to give the Blacks a 2-0 win. The performance was once again an improvement on the unwatchable efforts earlier this season.  more
