models are being exhibited
at Independence Square where

Snoopy needs a new home
(Wednesday, 25th August 2010)
Snoopy, a 3 year old beagle
dog needs a new home and a
loving family where this
lovely dog will give many
years of happiness to its
new owners. This dog was
found by Lorry Debono locked at the Gozo
SPCA which is currently
operating at full capacity
due to their small crowded
premises.

Fuq il-Ghajn BBQ attracts
huge crowd

The 'Fuq il-Ghajn' BBQ which
is now becoming a solid
yearly tradition was once
again well attended, this
time reaching the figure of
300 people. The atmosphere
was once again unique with
excellent food and good
entertainment. The pre-feast
euphoria was visible
especially amongst the young
ones!

External celebrations for
the Feast of Our Lady of
Loreto started today with
the GhajnsielemFest Music
festival. Many local talents
took part in this show
animated by the maltese
comedian 'id-Dulli'.
Maltese Eurovision Song
Contest winner, Thea Garett
ended the festival with her
popular 'My Dream'.

Rare pieces donated to the
St Joseph Band
(Thursday, 19th August 2010)
Emigrant Frank Zerafa who
was recently on a short
holiday in Ghajnsielem has
donated two rare manuscripts
to the St Joseph Band. The
manuscripts of which only
200 copies exist contain
Mozart's Requiem and
Beethoven's Moonlight
Sonata.

statue restoration

The St. Joseph Band is
sponsoring the restoration
of old statue of Our Lady of
Loreto popularly known as
the 'Madonna tad-Dar'. The
statue was displayed last in
public in 2005 during
Friday's demonstration
march. The old statue work
of Wistin Camilleri dating
back to 1949.

"Happy Days" at Radju
Lauretana
(Friday,6th August 2010)
Radju Lauretana unveiled its new signature tune for the 'Bonġu
mill-Għajn' breakfast show. The song which was originally composed by Charles
Fox for the popular American sitcom 'Happy Days' has been has been
reproduced by
the station's local DJ's and presenters.

St Joseph Band launches CD,
Tile4U
scheme

The St.
Joseph Band launched its new CD, 'Ġawhra' for the occasion
of the 2010 feast. The name refers to the Musical Archive
project which the committee has been working tirelessly for
the last 4 years. The Band also launched the Tile4U scheme
during a get-together organized for all expatriates.

presenting a rich schedule for the feast of Our Lady of
Loreto. The one month long schedule promises a variety of programmes for a wide
audience including live transmission for both external and
internal activities.

For the
fourth time, Radju Lauretana will be presenting a rich
schedule for the feast of Our Lady of Loreto. The one month
long schedule kicks off on Monday 2nd August at seven in the
morning and ends on Tuesday 31st August. Once again Radju
Lauretana promises a variety of programmes for a wide
audience.

Holy Confirmation for 35
children

16 girls and 19 boys today
received their Holy
Confirmation. The sacrament
was administered by Gozo
Bishop Mons Mario Grech.
Archpriest Dun Frankie
Bajada also took part in
the ceremony which started
at 4.30pm. Those who
received the Confirmation
participated in the Liturgy.

Memorable experience in Sicily
(Wednesday, 30th June
2010)
The St Joseph Band
proudly performed a magnificent performance
in Palazzolo Acreide, Sicily for the feast of St Paul. The
strong 80-people delegation arrived in
Sicily on the 27th of June to represent
Ghajnsielem and Malta during a 4-Day trip in
Sicily for the feast of St Paul in Palazzolo
Acreide near Siracusa.

Seminarian
Samuel Grech
ordained deacon
(Sunday, 20th June
2010)
After a long wait of 45
years, a young man from Ghajnsielem, Seminarian Samuel
Grech was conferred as deacon of the Roman Catholic
Church by Gozo Bishop Mgr Mario Grech during
solemn Mass on Sunday afternoon at the Gozo Cathedral.
Samuel was joined by five other Gozitan seminarians.

gets grants for sustainability

The
Ghajnsielem Local Council was one of the seven localities
selected under the "Sustainable Localities Programme" and
will soon benefit from part of the
€160,000 grants which will go towards preparing a
three-year study targeting demographic, economic, social and
environmental challenges. more

Preparations are in full swing for the next schedule which
starts this Saturday. Two important events which will
characterize this schedule are live coverage of all the
festivities surrounding the feast of Saint Anthony being
celebrated in Ghajnsielem and the Ordination of
seminarian Samuel Grech as deacon.

First Holy Communion
for 21 children
(Sunday, 30th May
2010)
It was a special day for 21
girls and boys as they received their First Holy
Communion last Sunday afternoon. They left the Old
Parish church at 4.45pm and walked to the Ghajnsielem
parish together. A mass was then concelebrated by
Archpriest Can Frankie Bajada.

St Anthony's
Feast preparations underway
(Sunday, 30th May 2010)
With only a few days to
go, several youths and volunteers are working around the
clock in order to finish the street decorations of 'Tal-Gudja'
area in time for the Feast of St Anthony which this year
will be celebrated on the 13th of June. All activities will
once again be broadcasted live on Radju Lauretana.

present in Notte Gozitana
(Sunday, 16th May 2010)
Several
organizations and local artists together with Ghajnsielem
Local Council took an active part in this year's
edition of Lejliet Lapsi. Activities included a life 'bakery'
built by 'Bethlehem f' Ghajnsielem' foundation, an art
exhibition by Vince Caruana plus a local talents
exhibition in Republic street. The titular painting was also
exhibited at the Gozo Ministry.

Feast of St
Joseph celebrated
(Sunday, 9th May 2010)
On
Sunday afternoon, the Ghajnsielem parish celebrated the
feast of St. Joseph the Worker, better known in Maltese as
'San Guzepp Haddiem'. A mass was celebrated at 5.00pm while
the St Joseph Band accompanied its patron by a procession
around the main streets. more
Maltapost branch to re-open soon
(Saturday, 8th May 2010)
MaltaPost has said that
after extensive renovation works, its Ghajnsielem branch,
will be operating again from Chambray Street as from
Thursday, the 13th of May 2010. Postal Services were
temporary location situated within the premises of the
archparish Church, adjacent Radju Lauretana studios.
Join the St Joseph Band in Sicily
trip
(Wednesday, 5th May 2010)
The Executive
Committee today announced the details of a 4-Day trip in
Sicily
between the 27th and 30th of June for those
who want to accompany the St Joseph Band. The
feast of St Paul at Palazzolo Acreide is worth visiting
and the trip
includes excursions to Etna and Taormina.

50 years of
priesthood for Fr Tarcisio Attard
(Sunday, 25th April 2010)
The Ghajnsielem Parish
today concelebrated a thanksgiving mass in honour of Fr.
Tarcisio Attard who on Friday 2nd April celebrated 50 years
of priesthood. Gozo Bishop Mgr Mario Grech addressed
the congregation before the mass. Fr. Tarcisio Attard is
currently the reactor of Lourdes Chapel.

Għajnsielem F.C. were
three minutes away from forcing a decider for the 09/10
league championship. Their defence, which had been fantastic
in repelling Victoria Hotspurs' desperate attempts to score
the all-important equalizer, was finally undone by a deep
cross to the second post. The referee's final whistle left
Victoria Hotspurs champions of the GFA first division.

Ta’ Pinu icon
passes from Ghajnsielem
(Friday, 23rd April 2010)
After
receiving a 50-centimetre rose from Pope Bendicth during his
visit in Malta, the Our Lady of Ta' Pinu icon was brought
back to Gozo this afternoon in a carcade. It arrived with
the 4.30pm ferry on the Ta’ Pinu vessel. In Ghajnsielem it
stopped briefly the Main Square.

Ghajnsielem
local council gets special funds
(Thursday, 15th April 2010)
The Ghajnsielem Local
Council recently signed an agreement with MEPA to fund
projects that will improve the quality of life of our
residents. The funds will be used to embellish the Old
Parish Square, 10th December Square (adjacent the band club)
and the area around the main square, in front of the clubs.

Twinning link
with the town of Bethlehem
(Tuesday, 13th April 2010)
Discussions are currently
taking place between the Ghajnsielem Local Council,
Bethlehem f' Ghajnsielem Foundation and Bethlehem Town
Council for the possibility of starting an official
relationship or even a twinning agreement between
Ghajnsielem and the Middle East town of Bethlehem.

The Easter Schedule is Over

Once again, the three-week
long schedule offered a varied genre of programs. The strong
team did it utmost to produce and present high-level
programs. The next schedule is planned to start on Saturday
5th June 2010 for the feast of St Anthony and the
much-awaited deacon ordination of Seminarian Samuel Grech.

its new website. The site, designed by Kevin Cauchi and
managed by Loreto Scicluna features a fresh look with more
sections including a dedicated area for the fans including a
Facebook fanpage and YouTube Channel plus a revamped history

Għajnsielem F.C. beat
Nadur Youngsters 4-1 in what was in effect a playoff to
determine who would go on to challenge Victoria Hotspurs for
the championship. The 3 points take Blacks equal on points
with the leaders. Għajnsielem will have to beat Victoria H.
in the last match to force a decider for the championship.

Dramatic win for the Blacks

Għajnsielem
F.C. snatched three points from their clash with S.K.
Victoria Wanderers with a Ferdinando Apap goal deep in
injury time. This after the Wanderers had equalized with a
goal of their own in time added on. The win keeps the Blacks
in the hunt for league honours.

St Joseph Band
to play again in Sicily

The St Joseph Band has
once again been invited to take part in the feast of St Paul
at Palazzolo Acreide, Siracusa in Sicily. This traditional
and popular feast is celebrated between the June 27 to 29 in
a very magnificent way. The Band will play marches the feast
eve and a host musical program on the feast day.

For the third time this
season, Għajnsielem F.C.'s progress in the league has been
interrupted by Xewkija Tigers. The 0-2 defeatsets the Blacks
back but does not eliminate them from the title race.
Għajnsielem played well for most of the match, and at times
played the best football of the season.

Historic moment for
the bells project

A
few days ago, Archpriest Frankie Bajada
together with a small group of parishioners were present for
another memorable step in the completion of the bells
project... the casting of the first five bells.
The casting took place at the Cornille-Havard Foundry
in Villedieu les Poelles, Normandy France.

Blacks back on track

After
two dispiriting results, Għajnsielem, led by player-coach Alex
Simoncic who earlier this week took over from Alex Spiteri,
put on a dominant display that saw the Blacks return to
winning ways and complete the season sweep of relegation
troubled Kerċem Ajax.

Musical Archive to be inaugurated this year

After
years of hard work, the Musical Archive and the
newly-refurbished Committee room are expected to be
completed and inaugurated at the upcoming Feast. This
was announced by President Gino Cauchi as the St Joseph Band
Club held its Annual General Conference.

Għajnsielem F.C. missed an opportunity to
take over the leadership of the first division when they
dropped to a 0-2 defeat. Għajnsielem conceded a goal in the
fourth minute of the match scored by ex-Black Errol Grima.
Despite the incessant pressure the Blacks could not find
an equalizer.

future

Ghajnsielem F.C. Supporters Club organized "Flashback -
Party for the Blacks" to rally all supporters together
and give moral support to the Blacks before the start of
the third and final round of this year's championship.

Bell Project – The
Dream comes true

There
are new developments as regards the Bell Project which
our parish has been working upon for the last few years.
The parish has been informed by the foundry that on
Friday 26th February, the casting of the first five
bells will take place. The whole set consists of eight
bells.

Blacks
held to a draw by Tigers
(Wednesday,
10th February 2010)
The
Ghajnsielem F.C. fought back from a two
goal deficit against Xewkija Tigers but could not complete
the comeback and had to settle for a draw. The 2-2 draw
leaves the Blacks two points behind Victoria Hotspurs who
have a game in hand. Ghajnsielem’s season finale now depends
on third parties.

Relic from the Grotto
of Lourdes

Gozo Bishop Mgr. Mario Grech
celebrated a solemn mass at the Ghajnsielem Archparish
Church during which a relic from the grotto of Lourdes
was presented. The stone will now be kept at the Lourdes
Chapel. The relic was brought on the request of Can. Joe
Cardona.

Primary School

The Anton Cassar Primary School of
Ghajnsielem recently launched a new website to bridge
the digital link between the students, staff and
parents. The website includes information about the
school, its organisation and how it strives to create a
positive environment for its students.

Lethal Weapon—Simoncic
does it again
(Thursday, 4th February 2010)
The chase is on. Ghajnsielem F.C.
edge Sannat Lions by a goal to nil. Alex Simoncic, once
again proved to be the difference between the Blacks and
their opponents. He scored the winner from a direct
free-kick early in the 2nd half. Joseph Grech, heroic in
this outing, collected his first clean sheet of the
season.

Chapel restoration
nearly completed
(Monday,
1st February 2010)
The late medieval chapel of Santa
Cecilia, the only one of its kind still extant in Gozo
has been given a new lease of life by means of an
extensive restoration programme. The rubble walls
surrounding the chapel were repaired. The restoration
will now focus on the cleaning and restoration of the
internal space.

Maria Giovanna Rapa
celebrates 100th Birthday
(Friday, 29th January 2010)
Several dignitaries recently
visited Mrs Maria Giovanna Rapa and presented her with a
gift in celebration of the the occasion of her 100th
birthday. The activity was held at her home in St
Anthony's street. A few days later, Gozo Bishop Mgr.
Mario Grech celebrated a mass at St Anthony's Church
which was attended by her family and several friends.

Sudden impact...
Blacks beat Kercem Ajax

Ghajnsielem F.C. edged Kercem Ajax
2-1 in a tricky encounter that even at this juncture of
the season could have compromised the Blacks’ title
aspirations. The numerous Blacks supporters at the Gozo
Stadium had their eyes focused on one-time nemesis, Alex
Simoncic, the transfer window signing from Nadur
Youngsters.

Get-Together for
Bethlehem volunteers
(Friday, 15th January 2010)
The organizers of 'Bethlehem f'
Ghajnsielem' organized a get-together for all
volunteers, helpers, sponsors and actors who gave a
helping hand in making the nativity village at 'Ta Passi'
a success. Over 250 volunteers were present, with many
of them already looking forward for next Christmas.

Alex Simoncic

Ghajnsielem F.C. completed the
transfer of the local winter transfer market when they
surprisingly snapped up Alexander Simoncic from Nadur
Youngsters. The 33-year old Serbian will join the Club
with immediate effect. Simoncic will be unveiled with
the Blacks gear during a supporters rally on Sunday.

Construction on new
civic centre starts

12th January 2010)
Mayor Francis Cauchi recently
accompanied Parliamentary Secretary for Public
Consultation Chris Said to view the new civic centre
being built in Ghajnsielem. The local council is
currently undergoing several other projects including
embellishments and road resurfacing.

Wistin Camilleri
monument unveiled

A commemorative ceremony was held
recently at Wistin Camilleri Gozo Centre for Arts and
Crafts, commemorating the 20 years since the opening of
school, as well as thirty years since the Camilleri's
death whom the school is named after. Minister Giovanna
Debono, inaugurated a monument in his honour. more

Lantern crowned with wooden cross
(Friday, 8th January 2010)
The final phase of the restoration of the dome of the
Archparish church was finally completed when the lantern was
crowned with a wooden cross. The cross which was blessed
during the midnight mass on Christmas eve is almost two
metres high and over a metre wide.

Radio's Christmas
schedule comes to an end

Radju Laretana's Christmas Schedule has come to an
end. It has been such a rewarding experience. The management
would like to thank all volunteers for the preparation,
production and presentation of all programmes. And during
the open day, more than €10,000 were collected for the
bell's project.

9-men Blacks stun Nadur
(Sunday, 3rd January 2010)
Ghajnsielem F.C. ushered the new decade with a gritty
performance and a 2-1 win over Nadur Y and lifts Ghajnsielem
into second place with Nadur, two points behind Victoria H.
The Blacks had to dig deep in the last quarter of the match
during which had two players harshly sent off for two yellow
cards.
