Contemporary artist, Vince Caruana, has emerged as one
of the most intriguing young local artists. Merging
introspection and visual spectacle, Caruana's personal
investigations of the Maltese islands, impressions and
abstraction possess the power to transform the islands'
identity into contemporary sensuality.
Despite his relative youth (b.1979), Caruana's work has
a sense of mature resolution of vision. Under his touch,
light and color achieve a subtle harmony that speaks of
great mastery of his medium. His art employs the use of
transparent overlapping geometrical planes that catch
light like prisms applied with rollers. These planes
rise up to form an architecture that continues into a
similarly constructed atmosphere, while light pours
through them as if through a series of gauzy veils.

Excelling in his chosen discipline, Caruana graduated with a
Masters in Visual Arts from the Libera Accademia di Belle Arti
of Florence in 2006. He earlier studied arts at the Malta
Schools of Arts and Scranton College of Arts of Pennsylvania
(USA). Meanwhile he has mounted four solo exhibitions, his
latest one entitled ‘Diagnosis: decoding an island’s identity’.
The artist has participated in various collective exhibitions
both locally and internationally including the Malta Biennale,
Madiera International Arte Bienal (Portugal), Tempra Accademy
(Connecticut, USA), Akademie Klausenhof of Hamminken (Germany),
the Loggia del Grano at the Uffizi Centre and the Quarter, both
in Florence (Italy). In 2005, his award winning-paintings have
earned him a Special Distinction Award from Connecticut (USA)
and the President’s Special Award at the Madiera International
Arte Bienal in Portugal.
Caruana's images have graced the pages of national and
international publications. Most recently four of his paintings
were commissioned to be reproduced as ‘limited edition’ print
runs by Go Mobile, one of Malta’s leading mobile operator for
their corporate clients. His fine work is increasingly finding a
home in business' public spaces and brightening the walls of
several private art collectors from various corners of the
world.
