The
Blacks started the 1966/67 season on a good note
when they won the Galea Cup by beating
Victoria Hotspurs in the final. The
Blacks, who had been losing finalists
four times in this competition, were
moments away from losing their fifth
Galea Cup final. At the death, however,
Loreto Galea scored to bring the Blacks
back on level terms. There was no
further scoring in extra-time and in the
first half of the replay. For the third
time in this epic final, Victoria
Hotspurs took the lead, through a Carmel
Camilleri goal, and for the third time
Għajnsielem struck back. This time it
was Alfred Galea who equalized. The
Blacks did not let go of the initiative
and soon after Loreto Galea set up John
Debono for the go-ahead goal. Loreto
Galea scored the third goal eight
minutes from time. |
