Weekend Round-up
November
30
Zebbug Rovers inflicted a
heavy 3-0 defeat on fellow aspirants to the title Xewkija Tigers on
Saturday. Zebbug thus made clear their intent that this year they will
mount a serious challenge for their first championship. Nadur Youngsters
will not give up their crown lying down, as was amply evident in their
signing of ex-Black player, Aloy Ihebulu. The prolific striker was on the
mark straightaway in the Youngsters narrow 2-1 win over the ambitious
Sannat Lions. The win takes Nadur Y. equal on top with Zebbug, albeit the
latter have a game in hand.
Tough times for
Club's youth sides
November
30
It was a tough weekend for two of the Club's
youth sides. On Saturday, the Under/16 side was undone by a couple of
questionable calls by the match officials and lost 0-1 to Xaghra U.
Ghajnsielem had Jonathan Grech sent off after being shown two yellow
cards. The Blacks then had a Miguel Refalo goal direct from a free-kick
flagged off by the referee assistant. The
Under/12 side lost to Xaghra U. as well on Sunday 3-4. The Blacks dug too
deep a hole for themselves going four goals behind before mounting a
valiant comeback that fell just short. Lorry Lee Mizzi (2) and Justin
Buttigieg scored the goals.

Bogdanovic
maintains link with Club
November
21
Daniel Bogdanovic, the star
striker on the Sliema Wanderers side and current Malta international, has
kindly donated to the Club playing equipment including balls, training
cones, bibs, etc. The 23 year old, who is married in Ghajnsielem, made a
couple of guest appearances for the Blacks early in his career.
Occasionally, Daniel still graces the Club's training ground with surprise
appearances joining the first team for an extra training session. Club
officials thank Daniel for his generosity and extend their best wishes to
him for the season. It is no secret that both parties harbour the hope
that Daniel plays for the Club again before he calls it a day.

Blacks in 2-2
thriller

Mbueko Kiala Dominique and N'dayi
Kalenga made their debut in Ghajnsielem F.C.'s hard-fought 2-2 draw with
Kercem Ajax. Kalenga marked his debut with a goal scoring from the spot to
tie the game ten minutes from the end. Jeremy Camilleri scored a wonderful
headed goal earlier.

Congolese pair
sign for Ghajnsielem F.C.
November
13
Ghajnsielem F.C. have announced the
signing of two twenty five year old Republic of Congo nationals, Mbueko
Kiala Dominique and N'dayi Kalenga. The two players who have been playing in the Turkish league are
expected to make their debut for the Club this Saturday against Kercem
Ajax. Dominique, who has been training with the Club for the past two
weeks, will most likely play in midfield. Kalenga arrived in Malta
yesterday and will probably be lined up in
attack.
Zebbug impress
November
9
Zebbug Rovers opened their 03/04 league
campaign with an impressive 3-0 over Victoria H. Along with Kercem A. they
are the only two clubs to start the season with a victory. Xewkija T. were
the last of the seven first division clubs to see action. They opened
their commitments with a hard fought 1-1 draw with Sannat L. The Lions
have thus featured in two draws so far, each time failing to hold on to a
lead. This is a creditable point for Sannat, however, considering that
they were playing against a Tigers team with great ambitions for this
season.
U/16 lose to
Youngsters
November
9
Ghajnsielem F.C.'s Under/12 side drew
1-1 with Nadur Youngsters. Justin Buttigieg scored the Blacks' goal. The
draw leaves Ghajnsielem well off the pace in the middle of the table.
U/16 lose to
Youngsters
November
9
Ghajnsielem F.C.'s Under/16 team went
down to a strong Nadur Y. team 2-4. Anthony Buttigieg and Stefan Azzopardi
scored the Blacks' goals. This loss jeopardizes the Blacks' chances for
the championship very early on in the season. On their part, Nadur have
been on a tear having made it to the final of the knockout competition as
well.

One small step...
November
2
The Blacks battled back from a two goal
deficit to carve a point out of their league opener against Sannat Lions.
Ghajnsielem, with a squad still entirely made up of home players, looked more solid
than in their previous outings yet they still managed to gift the Lions
with two first half goals. Vastly experienced in playing behind, it was
business as usual for the Blacks and they just kept probing away at
Sannat's defence. Errol Grima, in the best goal scoring form of his
career, put his signature on the two goals that brought the Blacks on
level terms.
Kercem Ajax
stun the champions
November
2
Kercem Ajax raced to a two goal lead against
Nadur Youngsters and held on to register an impressive 2-1 triumph over
the reigning champions.
Under/14 lose,
but Under/12 win again
November
2
The Blacks' youngest teams were in
action early today and had mixed fortunes. The Under/14 side lost to
Xewkija T. 2-4 despite playing well. The Under/12 side rode the goal
scoring prowess of Justin Buttigieg (4) and Ferdinand Apap and set aside
Sannat Lions 5-1.
