Blacks magic
May 30

Ghajnsielem have won the Super Cup for the fourth time in Club history. The Blacks destroyed Victoria Hotspurs in a ten minute magical spell early in the second half, with three goals of alarming simplicity and stunning beauty. Jeremy Camilleri, Frank Buttigieg and Matthew Portelli were the authors. Then, not satisfied, the Blacks went in search for more and N'dayi Kalenga added two goals before Reuben Mercieca scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot for the definitive 5-1.

Blacks end season on a losing note
May 23

Ghajnsielem ended their league commitments on a losing note when they dropped to a 0-2 loss to Sannat Lions. Dione Lautier scored both goals in the first half. With their win over Ghajnsielem, Sannat Lions drew level on points with Kercem Ajax and Xewkija Tigers and will now play in a mini-league to determine the last three positions in the league table. The last placed team will be relegated. The sixth place team will face St. Lawrence Spurs in a play-off. Zebbug Rovers celebrated their first championship with a 1-0 win over runners-up Nadur Youngsters.

Blacks beat Zebbug R.
May 16

Relegation picture still murky
May 16

Kercem A. beat Sannat L. 2-1 to move three points clear of the same Lions at the lower end of the table. Xewkija T. beat Victoria H.  5-2 to reach the 19 point mark, equal with Kercem A. Xewkija T. and Kercem A. have finished their commitments. Sannat needs to beat Ghajnsielem in their last match to avoid the drop and force a three-way relegation decider.

Blacks eliminated
May 12

Ghajnsielem lost 3-4 in sudden death extra-time against S.K. Victoria W. in the semi-finals of the U/21 league competition. Anthony Buttigieg and Lawrence Haber gave the Blacks an early 2-0 lead. Right after the Blacks's second the Victoria side pulled one back. Shortly after they drew level. Midway through the second half, the Blacks fell behind 2-3 but Larry Buttigieg equalized immediately after the Wanderers' third goal. Ghajnsielem's Miguel Refalo missed two glorious chances to net the winner late in the game. He was unfortunate to hit the post in one occasion and he shot just high on the other chance. In sudden death extra-time, Darren Azzopardi shot weakly when all alone in front of goal. Then down at the other end the Blacks conceded a goal which sent the Wanderers to the final where they will meet either Xaghra United or Victoria Hotspurs.

...and then there were three
May 9

Victoria Hotspurs were the big winners today in the four-way clash at the bottom of the table, and they did not even win. With the point earned against Sannat Lions in a 1-1 draw, the Victoria side is now clear of the relegation zone. Below them the situation has become even murkier than it was going in with Xewkija T.'s 3-0 win over Kercem A. Three teams are now equal on points at 16. Sannat L., Kercem A. and Xewkija T. have the same number of points but Sannat L. has a game in hand on the other two. both of whom have one match left to play.

Zebbug Rovers champions
May 8

May 8, 2004 will be written in gold in the history chapters of Zebbug Rovers F.C. On this day, these relative newcomers to Gozitan football became champions of Gozo for the first time. Congratulations for a magnificent season are in order to all those connected with this club.

Blacks dethrone champions
May 8

Ghajnsielem F.C. finally had the better of Nadur Y. in a league match. The Blacks conceded two early goals to Panic and Simoncic but came back with a vengeance. N'dayi Kalenga and Matthew Portelli leveled the score before the break. Then Joseph Attard put the Blacks up for good. Kalenga scored the fourth later on for a 4-2 finale. The Blacks are now assured that they will play first division football in 2004/05. On their part, Nadur Y. now cannot catch Zebbug R. at the top of the table
and have thus relinquished the title of champions which they have held over the past two seasons.

Zebbug R. two points away
May 5

Zebbug Rovers are a mere two points away from  winning the first championship in their history after their 3-0 win over Xewkija Tigers. They have a five point lead over second place Nadur Y. with two matches left to play. Victoria Hotspurs beat Kercem A. 3-1 to claim sole possession of fourth place in the standings.

Nadur Y. keep hopes alive
May 2

Nadur Youngsters recovered well from their last setback against Victoria Hotspurs when they beat Sannat Lions 3-0. They are now only two points behind leaders Zebbug R., who have a game in hand. At the other end, Sannat missed an opportunity to improve their league position. They must now pick up points from their upcoming direct clashes.
