A tale of two shirts

Ghajnsielem beat Xaghra United 10-1 to keep their narrow lead at the top
of the first division table. Daniel Bogdanovic scored two first half
goals, one from the penalty spot. N'dayi Kalenga scored four. The other
goals were scored Edoardo do Nascimento (2), Richard Buhagiar and Franklee
Galea. Xewkija Tigers kept pace with the Blacks with a 4-1 win over
Victoria Hotspurs. Kercem Ajax leapt into fourth place with a 4-1 win over
Zebbug Rovers.

Walk-over win for

Ghajnsielem's Under/12 side
consolidated their lead at the top of the championship pool without
breaking a sweat. S.K. Victoria Wanderers did not show up for the match
and the Blacks were given a walk-over win. They need a win and draw from
their next 3 matches to win the title.

End of 46 year stint at
the top

Nadur Y. beat Victoria H. 2-0 in the only 1st division match played this
weekend. Chidi Eric Nkwankwo scored the goals that mathematically condemned
Victoria H. to the 2nd division. Should Hotspurs play in Div. 2 it will be
the first time since the 58/59 season that they have played in a lower
division. In 1998/99 Hotspurs were actually relegated but were reinstated
after a radical change in league format (back from three to the current
two divisions).
Comeback kids

Ghajnsielem's Under/14 side staged a stirring comeback to beat Xaghra
United 4-3 in their second championship pool match. Andre Xuereb's first
half goal was overturned by Xaghra for a 1-3 score. Andre Xuereb, Ryan
Grima and Shannon Vassallo brought the Blacks back for a morale boosting
win.

Blacks keep narrow lead
at the top

Ghajnsielem beat Zebbug R. 8-0 in a 1st division match. Daniel Bogdanovic,
Richard Buhagiar and Bizu gave the Blacks a three-goal 1st half lead.
N'dayi Kalenga, Matthew Portelli, Bogdanovic (p) and Bizu (2) scored in
the 2nd half. Xaghra were held to a 1-1 by Victoria and Xewkija beat
Kercem 2-1.

Getting closer

Ghajnsielem's Under/12 side
made a huge stride towards the championship of the category with a 5-2 win
over Xewkija Tigers in their opening championship pool match. Ferdinand
Apap put the Blacks two up with headers. After Xewkija reduced the
arrears, Kenny Hili re-established the Blacks' two-goal advantage. Luke
Meilak stretched the Blacks' lead further. Ferdinand Apap then completed
his hat-trick. Near the end Xewkija scored another from the penalty spot.
Joe Bajada was the referee. Nadur Youngsters kept in touch with the
leaders by beating S.K. Victoria Wanderers.

Ghajnsielem's Under/14 side
came very close to upsetting Xewkija Tigers when they lost 1-2 with a late
goal. Shannon Vassallo was the Blacks' scorer.

Xewkija slip

Xewkija Tigers suffered the third loss of the season when they were beaten
by Nadur Youngsters 2-3 in an exciting match at the Gozo Stadium. Rashid
and Simoncic gave Nadur an early two-goal lead. Xewkija fought back and
leveled the score through Sabri and a Tazameta penalty. Aldrin Muscat gave
all three points to Nadur with a breakaway goal a minute from time.

Ghajnsielem's U/14 side
ended their preliminary phase commitments with a 1-5 loss to Xaghra
United. They will face Xewkija Tigers in the championship phase
opener.
