Xewkija off to a winning start
September 28

Xewkija Tigers, last season's league runners-up, made a winning start to the 05/06 campaign when they beat Xaghra United 2-1. Sabri Rais scored the winner 8 minutes from time. Dominique Mbueko and N'dayi Kalenga, Blacks stalwarts over the past two seasons made their league debut for Xaghra.

Ghajnsielem battle to a draw
September 25

Ghajnsielem kicked off the 05/06 league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Kercem A. Brian Meilak shot Ghajnsielem to a 1-0 first-half lead. Kercem drew level early in the second half with a Jason Portelli goal from a direct free-kick. Debutant Brazilian striker Adilberto Goncalves nearly won it for the Blacks but his shot came off the post. Sannat beat S.K. Victoria W. 3-1 in the other 1st division match played this weekend.

Second Brazilian signed by the Blacks
September 23
Ghajnsielem have signed Brazilian striker Adilberto Goncalves in time for the league opener against Kercem Ajax. Goncalves, who arrived in Malta today, played on the same side as ex-Blacks player Bizu, Blacks' libero Renato and Tarxien Rainbows' Da Silva early in his career.

Nadur for the eight time
September 21
Nadur Youngsters beat Kercem Ajax 2-1 in the final of the Independence Cup competition. 

Blacks pay harsh penalty
September 18
Ghajnsielem dropped to a 0-1 loss to Kercem A. at the semi-final stage of the Independence Cup. The decisive goal was scored midway through the second half by Alfred Effiong who converted a penalty given for a foul on the same player by Renato Conceicao. The Blacks felt that the decision was harsh and had Jeremy Camilleri sent off from the substitute bench for protests. In the other semi-final Nadur Y. beat Xewkija T. 2-1.

Blacks advance on Meilak wonder strike
September 11
Ghajnsielem had to work extremely hard to make it to the semi-finals of the Independence Cup. They beat S.K. Victoria W. 3-2 after extra-time, after fighting back twice from a goal down. Larry Buttigieg, Franklee Galea and Brian Meilak scored the goals for Ghajnsielem. They will play against Kercem Ajax on Sunday.

Independence Cup round-up
September 11
Kercem Ajax beat Victoria Hotspurs 2-0 in the fourth Independence Cup quarter-final tie. They will be the Blacks' opponents in the semi-final. The other semi-final will feature Xewkija T. and Nadur Y., who eliminated Qala St. J. on Saturday (7-3).

Pre-season ends with disappointing loss
September 7

Ghajnsielem F.C.'s pre-season program ended with a disappointing 1-4 loss to Nadur Y. Renato scored the Blacks' goal direct from a free-kick, with the last shot of the match. Formation: Joseph Grech, Joseph Scicluna, Joseph Buttigieg (Franklee Galea), Renato; Loreto Scicluna, Brian Meilak, Errol Grima, Frank Buttigieg, Joseph Attard, Larry Buttigieg, (Ichiogu Nnamdi) Stefan Azzopardi.

Ghajnsielem ease past Hotspurs in friendly
September 5
Ghajnsielem F.C. continued with their pre-season preparations with a 4-1 win over Victoria H. in a friendly match played Monday at the Sannat Ground. Larry Buttigieg (2), Joseph Attard and Jeremy Camilleri scored for the Blacks. Formation: Joseph Grech (Eric Mercieca), Joseph Scicluna, Jonathan Debono, Renato; Loreto Scicluna (Stefan Azzopardi), Joseph Buttigieg (Franklee Galea), Brian Meilak, Errol Grima, ( Jeremy Camilleri ), Frank Buttigieg, Joseph Attard, Larry Buttigieg.

Independence Cup round-up
September 4
The 2005 Independence Cup kicked-off this week-end with four preliminary round cup-ties. Sannat Lions, Qala St. J. and Kercem A. all registered 3-0 victories over Zebbug R., Gharb R. and Xaghra U. respectively. S.K. Victoria W., the Blacks' quarter-final opponents, eliminated Oratory Y. 5-3 on penalties, the match had ended 0-0 after extra-time.
