Blacks nearly blow it
October 13
Ghajnsielem F.C. nearly threw away their G.F.A. Cup preliminary round match against second division side Xewkija Tigers. Tarik Belhaj gave the Blacks the lead late in the first half from the penalty spot. Joseph Attard doubled the score ten minutes into the second half. Then two minutes of madness saw the Blacks concede two goals, scored by Rodney Buttigieg and Christian Bugeja. The Blacks had been playing with ten men from the opening minutes of the match, after Haruna Doda was sent off by referee Sammy Attard for retaliation. The match went into extra-time and penalties. Nikola Slavchev, Brian Meilak, Charles Mercieca, Joseph Attard and Martin Cremona scored for the Blacks from the penalty spot. Larry Buttigieg's penalty was saved by Grima. Christian Bugeja, Joseph Cefai, Josef Xerri and Paul Rapa scored for Xewkija Tigers. Victor Agius saved from Saviour Farrugia and Joe Azzopardi. Ghajnsielem won the match 5-4 on penalties. Earlier Victoria Hotspurs beat Xaghra United 2-0 in the preliminary round of the same competition.

Blacks fight back to grab an unlikely point
October 4
Captain Joseph Attard inspired the Blacks to a thrilling comeback in their match against Xaghra United. Ghajnsielem fell two goals behind in the first half (John Camilleri and Joseph Galea) and looked completely out of the contest. The Blacks, however, fought back and were good value for their two goals scored by newcomer Haruna Doda and Larry Buttigieg. In the nightcap, Sannat Lions beat Kercem Ajax 3-2.
