Rally
January 17, 2010
Għajnsielem F.C.’s
2009/10 challenge
received a series of
boosts over the opening
days of the New Year.
First of all, the Blacks
beat Nadur Youngsters to
establish themselves
among the elite of the
first division.
Secondly, the Blacks
watched the two teams
ahead of them in the
table, Victoria H. and
Nadur Y., drop points in
a 1-1 draw. This result
placed the Blacks in
full control over their
own destiny, at the
half-way point of the
season. Third, the
committee succeeded in
signing influential
midfielder, Alex
Simoncic, from Nadur.
The experienced Serbian
midfielder preferred the
Blacks over other clubs
that had expressed
interest in him.
The committee grabbed
the occasion to rally
the supporters at the
club premises and
introduce the newest
Blacks player to them.
The president, Mr. Sammy
Rapa, addressed the
supporters gathered at
the Club and expressed
his satisfaction that a
player that the
committee has craved for
some time has finally
joined the Club. Mr.
Rapa observed that the
first team can now
benefit from the
influence of three
football traditions,
Brazilian, Argentinean
and Serbian. Simoncic
noted that his wish of
wearing Għajnsielem’s
black strip had finally
been realized and he now
looked forward to
helping the team win
games and hopefully more
honours.
The president introduced
a new fund raising
scheme that is designed
to finance the team’s
operational costs to the
end of the season. A
number of supporters
were selected to get
personally involved in a
fund-raising drive
designed to reach
potential contributors
that would not otherwise
be accessible by the
committee. Mr. Rapa
added that the committee
expects to start work on
the resurfacing of the
Dun Karm Cassar Training
Ground during the
summer.
