MATCH REPORT

Għajnsielem F.C. moved out of the relegation places for the first time this season when they beat Sannat Lions 2-0 and moved ahead of them in the table. The Blacks now have to win one of their two remaining matches of the season to nail down fifth place in the standings and secure their first division status. Manuel Cordina and Jurgen Tashi scored the goals that gave the Blacks such a crucial win, their third in a row in this last round of league play.

The Blacks now lead Sannat Lions by one point and Victoria Hotspurs by two points. Għajnsielem have a game in hand over these two teams, but few expect them to get much out of their clash with league leaders Xewkija Tigers in Sunday's match. So the relegation matter will be determined the following Sunday, April 15th when first Sannat take on Xagħra United (who are now mathematically assured of their first division status), then Victoria Hotspurs take on the Blacks. A win for Sannat will steer them four points clear of last place and two points clear of the Blacks. A win for the Blacks would leave Hotspurs in last place and Sannat in the playoff position. A draw would relegate Hotspurs and send the Blacks to the playoff. A win for Hotspurs would condemn the Blacks and give Hotspurs another chance with the playoff against the 2nd placed team in the second division. Of course, should Sannat fail to win against Xagħra the situation would improve markedly for the other clubs in distress.
