In June
1953, Gozo celebrated the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The committee
in charge of the coronation celebrations offered a trophy and medals to
the G.F.A. to present to the winners. The cup competition was open to the
four first division teams. Ghajnsielem beat Victoria Hotspurs in the
semi-final, and found the Salesian Youths waiting for them in the final.
The Youths emerged the victors by the score of 2-0 and claimed the
Coronation Cup.
