Super Cup

The Super Cup was introduced as a competition to bring to a close the football season in Gozo in 1988/89. Although, there have been seasons in which the format has differed, the Super Cup pits against each other the top four teams in the first division in the just concluded season.

Ghajnsielem’s first appearance occurred in the 1994/95 seasons, and barring one season in which the Blacks finished out of the top four, they have been present ever since. More impressive is the fact that Ghajnsielem made it to the final four seasons in a row.

The Blacks triumphed in 1998/99 against Xaghra United 6-2 (Errol Grima 2, Brian Meilak 2, Joseph Attard II and Jude Madu). One year later the Blacks lost 0-2 to Victoria Hotspurs. Then followed two victories against Zebbug Rovers 2-1 in 2000/01 in sudden death (Stefan Farrugia and Aloy Ihebulu) and 2-0 in 2001/02 (Aloy Ihebulu and Jules Ngangue).

After an absence of one year from the final, the Blacks returned with a vengeance in 2003/04. They crushed Nadur Youngsters 5-2 (Matthew Portelli 2, Mbueko Dominique p., Joseph Attard, N'dayi Kalenga) and Victoria Hotspurs 5-1 (Jeremy Camilleri, Frank Buttigieg, Matthew Portelli, N'dayi Kalenga 2) en route to their fourth Super Cup win.

The following season, the championship winning Blacks returned to the final but lost to Xewkija Tigers 1-3.
