Edoardo
do Nascimento, also known as "Bizu", joined
Floriana in the 2000/01 season and was an immediate
success. The young Brazilian striker scored 11 goals in 14
Premier Division matches. He followed this up with nine
goals in 24 matches the season after that. In 2002/03 he
joined Sliema Wanderers but failed to replicate the goal
scoring form that he had shown with Floriana.
In
January 2003, he joined Nadur Youngsters on loan and
helped them to sweep to the league title at the expense of
the Blacks. Bizu scored eight goals in seven league
matches for Nadur. He also helped this club to the Jum
il-Helsien Cup, the Noel Vassallo Cup and the Super Cup.
The only match the Youngsters failed to win with Bizu in
the side was the G.F.A. Cup final against Ghajnsielem, a
match in which Bizu was sent off in the first half. With
the Youngsters Bizu not only scored at will but mesmerized
his opponents with his technique.
In
2003/04, Bizu rejoined Floriana and managed to score 8
more goals in 22 Premier Division matches. Hampered by
injury, Bizu's 2004/05 season with Floriana could not take
off and in December 2004 he was released. Ghajnsielem won
the chase for the signature of this striker ahead a number
of Gozitan clubs. He officially joined the Club when the January transfer window
opened on New Year's day 2005. He was registered in time
to feature in the Blacks' 4-1 win over Xaghra United the
following day. Bizu marked his debut with two goals and an
assist. He went on to score 11 goals in ten league
appearances for the championship winning Ghajnsielem side.
The most important of these goals being the second minute
strike against Xewkija Tigers in the decisive match.
