FIRST TEAM
Squad 2005/06

FRANK BUTTIGIEG
Date of birth: August 15, 1971
Nationality: Maltese
Position: defender
Appearances for Club: 190
Goals for Club: 16

Frank initially made his debut in the 1992/93 season. In his first season with the first team, Frank scored six times in thirteen appearances finishing as joint team top scorer. He spent one season on loan with Qala St. J. in 1995/96 where he distinguished himself with the quality of his work on the left flank. His three league goals for Qala were tops for his side. He established himself in the side in the 1996/97 season. He took a season off in 1998/99. He has been one of the most consistent performers since his return to the side.

Named the club's Most Dedicated Player in 2000/1 and again in 2004/05 and Player of the Year for 2001/2, Frank has developed into an extremely versatile player, able to switch from left wingback to stopper and perform at a high level in either position. Frank has scored some fine goals in his career. His goal in the Super Cup semi-final match against Nadur Y. a few seasons back, a delightful chip which set the Blacks on their way to a 3-1 is one. Yet another lobbed goal, this time in the final of the Super Cup of 2003/04 against Victoria Hotspurs will long remain etched in our memories.

Frank was a member of the treble winning side in 2000/1 (he scored twice in the Jum il-Helsien Cup Final), won the Super Cup with the Club in 2001/02, the Independence Cup and the G.F.A. Cup in 2002/03 and was one of the many heroes in the Super Cup success of 2003/04 (one goal and two assists).

Frank was a regular in the Blacks' championship winning side of 2004/05. He played in a variety of roles in defence and midfield depending on the circumstances and the opponent.

Frank is one of three remaining senior players in the team. His leadership, dedication and exemplary behaviour are characteristics which his younger team-mates would do well to emulate.

In 2003/04 he took over coaching duties of the Under/12 team and in 2004/05 he led the young Blacks to the league championship.
