FIRST TEAM
Squad 2004/05

HERMAN MIFSUD
Date of birth: May 24, 1977
Nationality: Maltese
Position: midfielder
Appearances for Club: 105
Goals for Club: 11

Herman made his debut in the 1993/94 when he came in as a substitute in the 1-2 loss to Xaghra United. He made four more appearances that season and started in the vital 3-1 win over Zebbug Rovers which kept the Blacks in the first division. He was at the time days shy of his 17th birthday.

Herman's career started in the Club's minor league teams where he contributed significantly to the sides that were so dominant in the early nineties. He won the Under/14 championship, the Under/16 championship twice and the Under/16 knockout. He twice won the  championship at the Under/21 level. He captained the 1997/98 side and was honoured as G.F.A. Footballer of the Year for the category in the 1998/99 side.

Once he graduated to the senior side only injury kept him out of the side. Possessing two equally cultured feet, Herman is comfortable in any department on either flank of the pitch. He has played in various positions depending on the side's needs: stopper in one season, midfielder in the other; he occasionally appeared as a striker, sometimes he was dropped back to the libero.

Unfortunately, he suffered an injury in the Under/21 championship match at the end of the 1997/98 season. He managed to come back towards the end of the following season in time to participate in the closing stages of the first division (premier format) championship and in three cup finals. He scored the winner in the Super Cup semi-final to send the Blacks to their first ever final in this competition. He also played in the final, won by the Club against Xaghra United 6-2.

Herman took part in the 1999/00 season when the Club finished runners-up in the league and finalist in two cup competitions. Then work commitments, an injury and a falling out with the Club's committee all conspired to keep this talented player away from the Club for four full seasons. After constant prodding by a number of people, including ex-captain Loreto Galea, Herman decided to make a comeback in the 2004/05 season.

Herman was in the past member and captain of the Gozo F.C. side. In the 1996/97 season he was chosen as the Player of the Year of Gozo F.C.
