Jeremy
Camilleri made his debut for the Club one day after his fifteenth
birthday. He is the Club's top scorer among active players and fourth on
the all-time list. Jeremy enjoyed
tremendous success on a club and personal level in his early days with the
Club. He was the spearhead of Ghajnsielem F.C.'s
all-conquering youth sides in the early nineties, winning the Under/14
championship, the Under/16 championship twice and the Under/16 knockout. Jeremy was perennially top
scorer and was also G.F.A. player of the year for the Under/16 age
category two years in succession (1991/92 and 1992/93). His
experience within the Sliema W. nursery scheme at the time contributed to
his development.
When he made
his breakthrough in the senior team, Jeremy continued scoring. He was the
Club's top scorer in the 1992/93 (joint) and 1993/94 seasons. After
experiencing a bad patch, Jeremy spent one season on loan with Victoria
Hotspurs where he won the Super Cup. He found his scoring touch with the
Victoria side. Indeed, on his first season
back with the Club he again was joint team top scorer. However, in recent seasons his
luck in front of goal has deserted him. Through the years he contributed
to the side by his intelligent approach play, height and weight. He even
played a few games at the back, most notably in the semi-final and final
of the Super Cup in the 1998/99 season, where he gave a good account of
himself on the way to victory in the competition.
Jeremy
powered himself into the side late in the 2001/02 season and was instrumental in our
Super Cup triumph against Zebbug R. Jeremy also scored in the Jum
il-Helsien Cup final victory two years ago against Nadur Y. With so many
goals to his name it is difficult to pick one for special mention,
however, his headed goal in a league victory over Zebbug in the 2000/1
season comes very close to being his best.
Jeremy
proved his worth to the Club in the
Independence Cup final of 2002/03 when his introduction late in extra-time was the
turning point which brought this Cup to Ghajnsielem. Jeremy joined Qala
St. J. on loan for the rest of that season where he was hampered by injury. Back with the Club in the 2003/04
season he was ever present contributing five goals to the
cause. More significantly he excelled defensively and
offensively in a roving midfield role, just behind the
strikers. He capped a great season by scoring the opening
goal in the 5-1 triumph over Victoria Hotspurs in the
final for the Super Cup.
Jeremy
played in the first round of the league in the 2004/05
championship season. A combination of factors forced him
to take time off from the side in the second part of the
season.
