JOSEPH ATTARD
Date of birth: December 17, 1978
Nationality: Maltese
Position: striker
Appearances for Club: 162
Goals for Club: 32
Joseph
made his debut for the Club in the 1995/96 season in a match against
Xaghra United.
His appearances for the Club were limited early in his career due to the fact that he
plays in the position of striker which has been occupied mostly by players
brought from outside the Club. Despite all this his attitude was never
found wanting and he has always been available when the Club has needed
him.
Joseph
enjoyed great success with the Club at youth level. He has won the
championship at the Under/14,
Under/16, Under/18 and Under/21 (twice) levels and the Under/16 knockout. He was awarded the G.F.A. Footballer of
the Year for the Under/18 in the 1995/96 when the team won the
championship for the category.
Joseph
scored his first goal for the Club in an Independence Cup match against
Kercem Ajax in the 1996/97 season.
Joseph
scored in the Super Cup final 6-2 win against Xaghra United
in 1998/99. He was part of the
treble winning side of 2001/2, made a brief appearance in the Super Cup of
2001/02. He was the hero in the Independence Cup win of
2002/03 when he scored the winner in the last minute of
sudden death extra-time. He also won the G.F.A. Cup with
Ghajnsielem that same year.
His
best season by far was the 2003/04 season when he featured
in every match played by the Blacks and broke into double
figures in goals scored (10) and played an important part
in the Blacks' success in the Super Cup.
Joseph
was a member of the Blacks team that won the league
championship in 2004/05. He was a starter for the first
two rounds of the campaign. His most tangible contribution
came in the 2nd round match against Victoria H. when he
opened the score within 25 seconds of the kick-off--a goal
that set the mark for the fastest goal in Club history.
