Mark made his debut in the
1993/94 season barely 17 years old. He was introduced as a substitute in
a G.F.A. Cup tie against Munxar Falcons. For the next five seasons he
steadily increased his appearances in the first team, making a great
impression in virtually every outing. He also managed to find the net on
five occasions, twice against Nadur Youngsters. The first goal was in a
2-3 Super Cup semi-final loss, the other was in the record 4-0 league win
in the 1997/98 season.
Mark's progress as a footballer has been hampered by a
knee injury picked up in the 1998/99 season. The injury did not look
serious at first. After a handful of painful appearances in the 1999/00
season, Mark decided to put his career on hold. In the past few seasons
his knee has held up and he has managed to get in some playing time while
on loan with S.K. Victoria Wanderers. He enjoyed some success with this
club as well helping them to triumph in the second division knockout in
consecutive years (2001/02, 2002/03).
Mark was part of the first division, premier format,
championship winning side of 1998/99 and also won the Super Cup with the
team that same season. He has also experienced success at the youth level
winning the Under/14 championship, the Under/16 championship twice, the Under/16 knockout competition
and the Under/21 championship once. In 1996/97 he was awarded with the
Footballer of the Year honour for the Under/21 category.
He was also a member of the Gozo F.C. early in his career.
