Spiro
Sillato, the veteran Victoria Hotspurs defender, joined
the Club after a defeat in the Independence Cup in the
1989/90 season
and assumed the position of player coach for the rest of the season. The
Blacks finished their league commitments in mid-table.
Then again, after three matches under
Teddy Curmi, in 1990/91, Spiro Sillato was elevated again to the
player-coach position. The Club and the team, however, were running short
on organization, discipline and motivation. Despite Spiro’s efforts, the
Blacks suffered their third relegation in a decade.
