Teddy
Bajada,
was one of the most successful players in the history of football in Gozo.
Just when his playing days came to an end he started
building a reputation for winning as a coach wherever he
goes. Ghajnsielem brought Teddy in to replace Patrick Vassallo midway
through the 2000/01 season. Although the team
chased the leaders in vain in the remaining league matches, Mr. Bajada
managed to put together a cup run that yielded a unique treble of trophies
for the Club: the Jum il-Helsien Cup, the G.F.A. Cup and the Super Cup.
Mr. Bajada was confirmed for the 2001/02, and hopes were running high that
the team would seriously challenge for the title under his leadership. A
disappointing start to the season which saw the Club quickly eliminated
from two cup competitions strained the relations between coach and
committee. Mr. Bajada tendered his resignation, after an opening day
league draw with Oratory Youths.
Teddy did not remain out of
a footballing role for long. Besides his involvement with
the committee of Sannat Lions, he took on the Nadur
Youngsters coaching job early in the 2002/03. We all know
how he led the Youngsters to the league championship and
three cup triumphs.
